La manipulación y transporte manual de cargas es una tarea muy común en las obras, que puede producir fatiga física, contusiones, cortes, heridas, fracturas y lesiones en los hombros, brazos, manos y espalda.
Asimismo, es una de las causas más frecuentes de accidentes laborales. Si bien las lesiones que se producen no son mortales, originan costos económicos y humanos considerables, ya que pueden tener una larga y difícil rehabilitación o provocar incapacidad física.
Se denomina "carga" a cualquier objeto (ladrillos, bolsas de cemento, arena, tablas, cajas, etc.) que puede ser movido por medio del esfuerzo humano, para trasladarlo o colocarlo en su posición definitiva.
Con la finalidad de que trabajes con mayor seguridad y evites accidentes, te ofrecemos a continuación las siguientes recomendaciones:
Antes de levantar la carga
Verifica su tamaño y forma, para estudiar la manera más segura de levantarla.
El peso de la carga no debe ser mayor a tu capacidad individual (Figura 1). Por ejemplo, lo máximo que debes levantar es una bolsa de cemento (42.5 kg.).
Usa elementos de protección personal, en caso de ser necesario (Figura 2).
Evita recorrer caminos con obstáculos o zonas resbalosas.
Retira o aplasta los clavos y alambres que sobresalgan de las piezas de madera.
Para evitar un esfuerzo excesivo de los músculos del brazo, debes usar manijas que permitan colocar los 5 dedos y la palma de la mano (Figura 2).
Cuando transportes fierros o tubos metálicos, verifica la presencia de cables eléctricos con corriente en tu recorrido para evitar riesgos de electrocución.
Si la carga tiene astillas o bordes filosos, debes usar guantes.
Asegura todo el material plano que podría caerse por acción del viento.
Al levantar la carga
Apoya los pies en piso firme, colocándolos separados a ambos lados de la carga, o uno más adelante respecto del otro. Así tendrás más impulso para levantar el objeto que deseas transportar (Figura 3, Figura 4).
Dobla las rodillas, manteniendo la cabeza y la columna rectas (Figura 3); el peso debe recaer en tus piernas (Figuras 4 y 5), no en tu espalda (Figura 1).
Agarra firmemente la carga con la palma de la mano y todos los dedos.
Al transportar la carga
Mantenerla pegada al cuerpo y centrada (Figura 5).
Al transportar tubos, escaleras, varillas o tablas, mira siempre adelante y ten cuidado al voltear una esquina.
No permanecer mucho tiempo con el objeto cargado, o recorrer distancias muy largas; puede ser perjudicial.
Evita los movimientos bruscos al transportar algo pesado.
Si el objeto pesa demasiado o hay un desnivel, es mejor llevarlo entre dos personas, de preferencia con una estatura similar (Figura 6).
No es conveniente transportar algo pesado con una mano; deben usarse las dos.
Para llevar bolsas de cemento o latas con concreto, colócalas sobre el hombro, manteniendo la columna centrada y la espalda recta (Figura 7).
Otras recomendaciones
No coloques la carga más arriba de tu alcance.
Ponla sobre lugares seguros y resistentes.
